During hayfever season this can help with the runny nose, the itchy eyes, the coughing, and the sneezing. The combination of Elderflower and Elderberries can help decrease the symptoms of colds, allergies & hayfever and can help with asthma.
It's one of those remedies that a grizzled old naturopath grumbled at the newly formed herbalist and was astounded at her lack of experience. Yes, it was growled at me. And clients have reported how much this has helped them or their children.
Directions for Infusion:
Infuse 1-2 teaspoons in one cup of boiling water.
Cover and infuse for 10 minutes.
Drink up to three cups a day (1/2 the amount for children.)
You can sweeten with honey or stevia if you like.
Some clients brew it up for the day and keep it in the fridge.
If you are using this for allergies, take 1-2 cups daily during high allergy season.
Any questions, please contact me and I'll do my best to help. No growling, I promise!
Remember you can use Herb Nerd Teas up to three times and still get all the herbal goodness.
The technical side of things shows why this helps. The flower of the elder tree is rich in flavonoids, such as quercitin and anthocyanins, which help with inflammation and have some anti-viral activity. The berry is rich in flavonoids, vitamins A, C, and some B vitamins. Science has finally caught up with us in the herbal world showing that the berry has anti-viral capabilities. Together these herbs provide relief from sinus congestion, runny nose, inflammation, and can help with colds, flu, asthma, allergies, and hayfever. Pretty darn cool, I say.
